Dreaming of the Beach

Departing from my Paris fantasy for a while, I drifted to thinking about the beach. This illustration was inspired by Bossa Nova music, the 60s and old LPS.

Melissa Sweet Receives Caldecott Honor

Melissa Sweet, one of my most beloved illustrators has received the prestigious Caldecott Honor for her book "A River of Words". She is a lovely, kind person. I was so happy to have been able to hear her speak last summer in Rutherford, NJ--home of William Carlos Williams; the subject of the book. Congratulations Melissa! You continue to inspire me with your talent.

1001 Handmade Greetings

I was approached well over a year ago by Laura McFadden, the designer of an upcoming book about handmade greeting cards. I sent her some samples and that was it. Flash forward much later, one Sunday while browsing at the local Barnes and Noble and voila! There's the book and I am in it! I was excited to see my work inside, as well as the other artists who concocted all these fun, imaginative cards. The book is very inspiring and full of eye candy. Now go buy one. (I promise I see no profits from it)

Cookbook cover

This is a personal piece I did while convalescing from knee surgery. I love doing book jackets so I threw this together (no pun) using bits from old jobs and some new design touches.

Side note: this recession is AWFUL for artists. We must all get more and more creative to survive and get work.

New CD design

Just finished this CD for a fun band that plays 60s style, Bossa nova music. This is the third CD that I have done for them and it is always a lot of fun.

50 Bucks I could have spent on art supplies!

Ok, I realize that the rising cost of groceries is not really a subject of vintage or artistic nature. But I was so utterly SHOCKED last night at King's where I went to pick up just a "few things". I stood there open mouthed as the clerk mumbled the tally. How could so little cost SO much? I may have to give up olives ($4.41) and seaweed salad, but the rest were pretty necessary.

Is it this high outside the greater NY area? yikes!

Down in a meadow...

This is a print I created for Etsy...I love this quote. I discovered it while browsing through an old autograph book from the thirties.
